ANW 2015 is just a mere 3 1/2 months away!

As I was considering my work on this temperate July 7th day my thoughts wandered to… ANW 2015!

Of course, all things must change and this year’s ANW is going to be a bit shorter time-wise. We’ll arrive at the cabin on Thursday afternoon (3pm checkin time) rather than the usual Wednesday night. This will make for a shorter but perhaps more intense ANW this year. The late Wednesday arrival lets the brothers let off a little steam on the ride up and take a bit of the edge off before the events of the weekend start.

There are a few outstanding themes from last year such as:

1. Can the LB’s (LIKE BEER) team step up their washer’s game and take the Championship of the World away from the Fatgina’s?

2. There will be a couple of guys brought up from the farm team to attend the ANW Show. Andy, a participant from several past ANW’s and the notorious bearer of a referee whistle, will be there. Along with Andy, Cow has invited a lodge brother to ANW who will also be doing some cooking during his visit. Questions such as: How long will it take Leo to punch Andy if he brings the whistle? remain to be answered.

3. Last year’s Disc Golf event saw Cow take his fifth straight 1st place trophy. The question being asked here is: Where is Peeve’s game? Peeve, he of long reach and the many time beneficiary of the ‘clubhouse bounce’ out of the trees, was only 3 shots out of the lead. Can Peeve take the trophy this year?

MMMMMM… Potted Meat.

4. The 2014 Disc Golf event also saw the return of Dag to last place where the ‘Meat’ trophy is earned. Dag is the only player to get the ‘Meat’ three times in a row and because of that tasted the ‘potted meat’. Will he return to something resembling form this year and escape last place or fall to last place again and have to agonize and stress over his finish during the 2016 Tourney?

5. Vin… well.. will Vin suffer from another epic collapse during one round that costs him his chance at first place?

5. Lastly, Gapp managed to escape last place in 2014 and bounce up to third, 4 strokes out of first place AND by doing so escaped the Potted Meat. Was this an anomaly, a shift in the magnetic fields or is a changing of the guard afoot?

We’ll see soon enough.

ANW 2014 is complete!

Another ANW weekend has been completed. Good times with great friends.

The Winner of the ANW Disc Golf trophy this year was Cow.

‘The Meat’ was awarded to Dag.

The complete scoring for the tourney can be found here. There was a small switch of finishing positions but overall Cow finishes with his 5th trophy in a row.

The Washers championship of the World was retained by the Fatgina’s.

See you again next year.

ANW 2014 – penalty totals

Penalty totals as of 11/5/2014…

Cow – 6
Leo – 3
Dag – 3
Gapp – 3
Peeve – 2
Vin – 2

10/29 – 11/5
No violations

10/28
Hidey Ho Campers! Vin gets one while discussing stocks via email.

10/27
Oh Boy. Cow gets another. He’s approaching your friendly neighborhood editor’s personal record of eight.

10/26(PM)
WOW! The string of non-violation days is over. A penalty has been added to Dag’s count after a debate about the use of the complete sentences in emails went awry. Cow brought out a Schoolhouse Rock video published on YouTube to help make a point to Leo about the use of interjections within the English language.

10/22 – 10/26 (AM)
The ANW boys are carefully treading email and conversations and making sure not to express their thoughts with a word starting with d and r. We have a 3 day no-violation string going…will it last until the car ride up? Will Cow gather magic number 6? Will Vin gather #2?

Only 10 days until ANW.

10/22
Daaaannnngggg. Rob gets one for a d-r word in an email.

10/20 to 10/21
No violations.

10/19
Oops. Cow throws down a d-r word in an email.

10/18
No violations to be recorded.

10/17/2014
Ugh. Gapp gets one for not paying attention to what he is writing in this blog.

10/16/2014
Wow. Cow starts a sentence off with a d-r word. Might have something do to with distracted dwiving and writing email. Leo gets one based on assessment by Cow.

10/15/2014
Yeesh. Peeve gets involved in a discussion of music and how get can get it on his iPod and throws down a d-r word.

10/10/2014
Interesting day. Gapp started the afternoon penalty fiesta with a double email that could clearly be blamed on a phone equipment failure but he took with good spirits. Vin followed with a double-text to Cow…to Cow’s great delight. Dag, in a moment of rare technological failure, followed with a double email incident.

10/9/2014
Cow jumps out to the early lead with an email containing multiple d-r words. Gapp falls on his sword for one in celebration of the nearness of ANW. Dag and Leo do..something..I can’t remember what but they earned them.

Peeve states that he will not participate in ANW email banter due to the possibility of sending duplicate emails but is joining in after an apparent relaxation of the rule.

Vin makes a claim that the rules are out the window. Later in the day Peeve joins the penalty list in solid fashion by contributing to the music discussion and mentioning a hard ‘dwive’ in an email.

2014 ANW Disc Golf Tourney Preview

Introduction
The latter part of 2014 was spent putting together this web site and getting the Disc Golf scores over the years tabulated and posted. Based on the analysis of the scores as well as the health condition and well-being of the players what follows is a prediction for the winner of the 2014 ANW Disc Golf tourney.

Keep in mind that the order of finish has not changed much over the years with Cow, Peeve and Vin generally in the top 3 and Leo, Dag and Gapp the second tier of players.

Cow
In Cow we have a player who has been dominant over the last few years. Excellent dwiving skills and stellar putting have lead the way. This year however Cow may be hobbled by some health issues which could spill over onto the field of play. While there are lingering issues with his health the will to win is undeniable and Cow could be a force by simply sowing rumor, challenges and general vocal mayhem.

Peeve
Over the last 4 years Peeve has averaged 7+ strokes back in the 2nd place campaigns of 2011, 2012 and 2013 and there was a win in 2010. Peeve’s downfall could be that he gets over-served on the course.

Vin
Vin has averaged 18.5 strokes back and no wins in the last 4 years. Vin usually plays with the leaders but he is one train wreck of a round away from falling out of contention. Vin is a real threat to take the trophy this year and Peeve would do well to watch Vin’s play and press on holes via shot challenges.

Leo
In Leo we have a wild card among the 2nd tier of players. Leo was consistent in the 2013 campaign with an average of 57 for 4 rounds and was only 5 strokes back from Peeve for 2nd and two strokes back for 3rd. Should Leo continue his consistent play while Peeve and Vin fight it out for first place he could slip into the mix and finish in the top 3.

Dag
Who? Dag that’s who! Dag’s play over the years has become consistent. Good dwiving and improved putting skills have greatly helped. Oddly Dag’s been quiet all year as if he’s plotting something. It could be that he’s has been out practicing and consuming heavily to build his tolerance.

Me
Your friendly neighborhood editor? I’ve got a lot riding on this year. There could be a lot of “That was a 2…right?” going on. Fifth is within reach with a stumble by Dag or Leo. Fifth or gefelta fish.

Prediction
Assuming that Cow’s health issues are detrimental to his game it will Peeve by 4 strokes over Vin.
