Baldwin Course (current), Holes 1-9

After the sale of the ‘Cranestone’ property the ANW festivities were relocated to a cabin in the hardwood forests near Baldwin, MI.

The course was created on our first arrival to the new location and involved copious amounts of alcohol. We somehow ended up with 25 holes and with two members covered in Pink survey paint (which was used to mark the pins. That went over poorly with the owner).

We pared those 25 holes to 18 and what you see below is the current course.

Cow on Hole 1Hole #1 – Par 2Hole_1_1View from the tee. Target marked with red dot.

Hole_1_2View 20 yards from pin. Target marked with red dot.

Comments about Hole #1 – Very straight forward hole. The pin is the tree leaning over the road. A straight shot with a bit of fade at the end will give the player an excellent opportunity for par.

Cow on Hole 1Hole #2 – Par 3Hole_2_1View from tee. Target marked with red dot.

Hole_2_2View from 20 yards out.

Comments about Hole #2 – Long hole that opens up on the right where the road turns to the right. Plenty of tree limbs over the road so keep it low and keep the right to left fade to a minimum to stay out of jail.

Cow on Hole 1Hole #3 – Par 2Hole_3_1View from tee

Comments about Hole #3 – A straight shot with fade to the left at the end should put the player in a good position for a par. Watch the guardians on the left and right of the road.

Cow on Hole 1Hole #4 – Par 2

Hole_4_1View from the tee. Target marked with red dot in center of image.

Hole_4_2View of the pin from 20 yards out.

Comments about Hole #4 – This hole is of moderate length and follows the roads angle to the left. It plays to a right hand back hand throwing player’s natural fade. A good strong shot will net a player an easy par or potential ace.

Cow on Hole 1Hole #5 – Par 2
Hole_5_1This hole is a blind tee off.

Hole_5_2Taken from the top of hill which is reachable from tee. Pin target area marked by red dot.

Comments about Hole #5 – A long hole that follows the road. The road splits and a shot can go left or right and still be in good shape.

Cow on Hole 1Hole #6 – Par 3Hole_6_1View from the tee, pin to the right sitting in front of a old propane tank

Hole_6_2View of the pin (the tree in front of the tank)

Comments about Hole #6 -This hole again follows the road and its banana bend to the right. A nice Anhyzer shot that allows the disc to follow the road yields excellent results. A straight shot will dump you in the woods on the left and while there are some shots at the pin from there…it ain’t easy.

Cow on Hole 1Hole #7 – Par 2

Comments about Hole #7 – With this hole we return back down the road. This is a straight shot, medium length and a good opportunity for an ace.

Cow on Hole 1Hole #8 – Par 2

Hole_8_1View of the pin from the tee. Pin is marked with red dot and is the metal plate secured to the tree

Hole_8_2View of the metal plate that is the pin.

Comments about Hole #8 – This hole is straight as an arrow and a pain in the ass. A straight tee shot will give you a good look at the pin but any fade makes the next shot interesting. Many a player has made a great tee shot and missed the pin because of the upward angle to the plate. A miss is rewarded with a harder shot at smaller target from the back.

Cow on Hole 1Hole #9 – Par 1Hole_9_1View from the tee

Comments about Hole #9 – A nice simple hole to end the first 9. Chances are pretty good for an ace.  Stay straight at the pin as a shot the right puts you into the trees. The hole opens up to the right and a fade will put you in jail.
