Washers <\/strong><\/p>\n

Also known as “Washer-toss” or “Hillbilly Horse Shoes’, The ANW version of\u00a0this tailgate favorite\u00a0is slightly different than the standard game.<\/p>\n

The first, and most obvious difference is that ANW Washers is played with three boxes instead of two.\u00a0 The boxes are set in an equilateral triangle 21 feet (7 paces) apart.\u00a0\u00a0At each box is one member of each 3-man team.\u00a0 Play starts with the first player throwing his 3 washers at the box to his right.\u00a0\u00a0His\u00a0opponent then throws his three washers at the same box.\u00a0 Their teammates, stationed at the box the former players were throwing toward, then\u00a0tally the points, pick up the washers and\u00a0take their turns.\u00a0 Play proceeds in a counter clockwise\u00a0direction around the triangle until one team reaches 21 points.<\/p>\n

\nHere we see the washer area configuration for 6 players<\/em><\/p>\n

Only washers inside the box count for points.\u00a0 Washers in the box score one point.\u00a0 Washers in the “Jar” score three points.\u00a0\u00a0However, identical scores cancel each other.\u00a0 For example:\u00a0 If player\u00a0one scores 2 in the box and player two scores\u00a02 in the box, it is called a wash and\u00a0no points are earned.\u00a0\u00a0 Additionally,\u00a0a washer in the “Jar” cancels out any\u00a0\u00a0opponents washers in the box.\u00a0 So if player one throws 2 washers in the box and player 2 throws one washer\u00a0in the\u00a0jar, player two is awarded 3 points and player one gets nothing.<\/p>\n

Another key difference between “normal” washers and ANW washers is that if a player scores with\u00a0all three washers in any given turn, a time out is taken and all other players must finish whatever beverage they are consuming at the time.<\/p>\n
