Mexican<\/strong><\/p>\n

The game of ‘Mexican’ or, \u00a0as some call it, ‘Mexicans’ is a dice game with its roots in games such as “Liar’s Poker” or “Bluff”.<\/p>\n

The game itself is quite simple.<\/p>\n

To play ‘Mexican’ all that is needed is a set of two dice (preferably from a Yahtzee game), a cup, a half-filled glass of beer and a keg from which to fill that glass. The first player puts the dice in the cup, shakes the cup and then brings the cup down on the table so that the dice are contained within the cup. The player then raises the cup just enough so that they can see the upward facing numbers on the dice that represent their ‘score’ –\u00a0while keeping the score concealed from the next player.\u00a0 The player then says his score aloud and passes the cup to the player next to him.\u00a0\u00a0In order to proceed, the next player must beat the score of the previous player.\u00a0 So if player one’s roll is a\u00a06 and a 1, he calls out “sixty-one”.\u00a0 The next player\u00a0has two choices.\u00a0 he can believe\u00a0his opponent and roll the dice, or he can\u00a0lift the cup to see the dice.\u00a0 If he\u00a0chooses to roll, he must tie or beat sixty-one with his roll, he\u00a0then pass the turn to the next player.\u00a0 If the player does not believe his opponent and lifts the cup, one of two things happens.\u00a0 If the\u00a0opponent is shown to be lying, he consumes.\u00a0 If the opponent was telling the truth, the player that lifted the cup has to consume.<\/p>\n

Scoring<\/em><\/p>\n

The numbers resulting from the roll of the dice have been designated with names. Some scores, such as 2-1 (“Mexican”) are part of the common game, other scores have names that are part of ANW lore such as 5-4…”Bill Rose”. In addition the rolling of certain scores can elicit singing from a ANW brother. In the case a ‘2-1’ roll the singing of ‘la cucaracha<\/a>‘ is an acceptable song of celebration.<\/p>\n
